Two things I would like to see, one of them very easy to do:
Make it so that pokemon don't have to use HMs to use them in the overworld. If you have the HM and a pokemon in your party that can use it, then you can. Of course you can still teach pokemon the moves.
It would be nice if you got to choose the town you started in with a starter that matched the town. The the levels of pokemon on different routes are calculated based on your starting point.
