Mega evolutions are a stupid gimmick and most of the gen 4 evolutions were utter garbage, magmortar, rhyperior and electivire especially.

Thank fucking GOD gen 5 fixed that shit by introducing evolite. Now Rhyperior serves a purpose, being an evolution so Rhydon can carry an evolite.

Megas are a fine gimmick. I like having 1 party member who is really overpowered. However mega evolutions should be restricted to stage 3 pokemon. Like some single stage or second stages who got megas should have had an evolution first.

That being said, a more powerful version is far greater than an outright replacement, especially since the thing the replacement evolves from has a good chance to outclass it thanks to Eviolite. Plus, not every non-legendary Pokemon line needs to be three stages.

you serious nigga? a whopping two of the sinnoh evos are outclassed by their eviolite prevos (porygonZ and dusknoir [though i guess porygonz isn't necessarily outclassed, but it's definitely worse]). you could argue rhydon but i still think rhyperior is better.

Don't forget the regular evo has a better chance still be shit than the Mega Evo.

That being said, Pokemon like Pinsir, Heracross, and Kangaskhan (just to name a few) should get prevos.
