i think the most frequently overlooked fact is that they called it a fucking plant.

like people are constantly reveling that it's just a bunch of eggs, but somehow they're okay with the fact that somewhere, someone at gf decided eggs and plants were the same thing

I think the reason many people preferred GFs old pokemon designs was because they were simplistic and pokemon with some human features made it likable.

They are seeds. As >>21648651 said, it probably has that meaning too.

Remember that Pokémon don't have to be one thing. Exeggcute look like eggs but are seeds. Vanillish looks like ice cream but are icicles covered in snow.

I wonder how many years it will take Genwunners to realize Garbodor is the final addition to the Pollution Trio. The only reason he wasn't introduced in Gen 1 is because Kanto isn't a cesspit like Unova.

If Garbodor were release in Gen 1 (which it wouldn't because look at how fucking detailed it is for a garbage monster!) people wouldn't have complained at all. Instead, "OMG HOW CLEVER GAMEFREAK! LAND POLLUTION, SEA POLLUTION, AIR POLLUTION HAR HAR HAR"

That's part of the mimic trope. They put a risk/reward mechanic on treasure chests. Mimics tend to be either difficult to kill, or annoying, by inflicting status effects for example. Voltorb's thing was self destructing, giving that it was the fastest pokemon line in gen 1, amoongus is about inflicting status.

i like the gen 1 pokemon best. not because i hate the new ones (i like the new ones too). but gen 1 pokes are my favorite because they are the ones i grew up with. so everytime i see one amongst the vast sea of new faces it warms my heart with nostalgia to see my old buddies. but i only actually run two gen 1 pokes on my team (gengar and kangaskhan).

the best way i can describe it is to move to a new country and feel alone. then you see one of your old friends has moved to your new home. it makes you feel good and gives you a sense of familiarity.

Nostalgia can be a perfectly fine reason to prefer the old ones as long as you ADMIT that's the reason. That's the whole thing. People try to pass it off as if the newer Pokemon are worse for whatever reason, when the truth is they're just different.

Psychic hivemind eggs that are actually seeds and evolve into a coconut tree? It's pretty ridiculous that someone would even come up with something like this. I'm glad GF doesn't listen to petty whiners who want to stop any Pokemon like this from existing. Especially when they have a plethora of many other things to choose from.

It just strikes me as a selfish way of thinking when there are so many damn Pokemon to choose from, and people just cherry pick ones they don't like because it doesn't fit with what they want Pokemon to be. It's so childish and stupid and I don't get why its one of the most persistent arguments among this fandom.

I don't see why people think nostalgia isn't a valid reason for preferring something. What it isn't a valid reason for is claiming something is better.

My favourites largely come from the earlier gens too because I grew up with them, but the more familiar I get with the newer gens, the more I warm to them. I think it's largely about that familiarity for me.
