Design-wise, yes, Torterra is unrivaled among the starters.

But it's not the best grass starter. Venusaur gets that distinction. Venusaur has it beat in regards to bulk, movepool and ability to rebound after a rough attack.

Impish Nature
- Stockpile
- Leech Seed
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake

Stockpile + Shell Armor makes this thing tough to kill. Leech Seed is nice in addition to Leftovers, though sometimes I run Rest over it, depending on how much Toxic/Will-o-Wisp I encounter on a given day. EdgeQuake hits everything else for decent damage, bar other Torterra, Breloom, Chesnaught, and the rare Virizion.

It's actually a really SHITTY Rotom-W counter because it's a grass type that's neutral to water instead of resistance and it's also a physical attacker, which is doubly shitty since Rotom cripples it with a burn and is physically defensive typically. Plus choice variants of Rotom run hp ice.

Meanwhile M-sceptile doesn't mind a burn that much, is sanic fast and actually gets more power from a volt switch on top of its immunity, plus hits Rotom-W on its lower special defence.

I prefer the offensive pressure over walling everything. Can't hit EVERYTHING for neutral damage, but Leech Seed + powerful STAB combo wears everything down pretty quickly. Stockpile + Shell Armor is a nice combo too.

It has a great theme, but it's not without issues that drag it down. The random head spikes, the little black parrot beak, the random hexagon and rim on its "shell" that have no consideration for where its other markings begin or end... it's completely reasonable that some people might find it unappealing.
