No, no, the other anons are right. It's a stupid idea.
Pokemon Company doesn't default their online competitive to Smogon rules for the same reason that Nintendo doesn't default their online competitive in Smash Bros. to tourneyfag rules. If they want to exercise their no-items, only-three stages allowed rules on their own, that's fine, but making it the default for online play is stupid. The vast majority of people playing are casual users and children, and their online play shouldn't be beholden by rules created by a small, hardcore segment of users. Most people enjoy the randomness that comes with items and some of the sillier stages, and there are plenty of games that use randomness as a crucial gameplay element. It's only a small group of autists concerned over their "skill" that take it seriously. If they want to do so, that's fine, but keep it to themselves.
The same applies for Pokemon. Tier lists, IV, EVs, most leaders don't want that bullshit. Sure, you might be raw because someone ignored the tier list online to beat your max IV genned tournament battling team, but it's more likely to be a kid playing his favorite Pokemon than a fellow autist trying to game the system. This is one of the times where Nintendo is right to think of the casual users instead of the hardcore players.
