Man fuck TRU, Walmart started selling those packs for $1 and even at the heyday only reached a bit over $2. I used to get 4 packs a week for $5 on my allowance there.

TRU were massive Jews back then because "muh toy heaven" and I used to hunt down things anywhere I could to avoid paying for Pokemerch from their overpriced stores. Greedy cunts.

Though I will say the rush you got from a holo foil, even a repeat was exhilarating. And odds weren't so fucked. Nowadays kids only get excited over Ultra Rares and even then if they're usable or worth money. I wish holo cards weren't regarded as being so shitty anymore.

Yes, the packaging back then was so colorful and gaudy on the shelves, but fuck, man. I collected that shit religiously because the prices were decent since they knew you were going back for more later.

i also remember when Bionicle sets were $6-8. Launching next year again at $20 for what's a slightly larger canister set? What the fuck is wrong with these people?

For people playing the game, like me, they were valuable, but a lot of people hated getting them in place of holos or Rares. I mean, people would even take Beedrill over Pokemon Breeder. Got a shitton of rare trainers back then for good trades.

Nice. I remember getting a booster box of Fossil first editions from a liquidator toy store for $20. Other than that, I managed to get 2 boxes of Aquapolis blisters from EBay for $75 which was a steal even back then. Got a Crystal Kingdra from that haul.

Back in the day when the First Edition base set Charizard was the holy grail of Pokemon that could get your ass stabbed. Blastoise was the superior card but hardly anyone wanted it.

There was decent demand for Blastoise in my area from Bluefags, card players, and general Char haters. Venusaur though, no one liked.

Venusaur was my favorite starter in gen 1 and I got the card in a pack on Christmas. Felt kinda bad though that people hated him and traded so low with him.
