also anon the other day had scans of a company guidebook, and there was a page just for saying the pokemon world is similar to earth but is NOT earth and does not have the same continents and countries, so those cannot be used in the franchise products

Yeah, it has "different' ones like Kalos is not france. The difference refers to name and other differences, the basic geography is the same in terms of shape.

That's why you have deserts in places like Hoenn and New York.
