There's plenty of girls that play pokemon. I know a lot of girls who bought a 3ds just so they could play XY. From my experience they're a lot more casual players than guys though, dropping the game after they beat it or mainly shiny hunt instead of stuff like ev training.

Or the girls that do take it seriously don't talk to the type of guys into Pokemon who have ridiculous gender bias when it comes to video games, which in turn also makes it harder for them to get into more competitive aspects. They also often don't want to be seen as "a girl who plays Pokemon". Lots of people play Pokemon, casual or not.

Pokemon is generally an OK fandom though, things like MtG are the worst for this sort of mentality.

Most grills I know stopped after/only had Emerald. I know a couple that do keep up to date with the new games (my current grillfriend bought a 3DS just for Y and we battle/talk about Pokemon frequently) but most grills I know who still play Pokemon are the kind that make a team of Gen 1 only Pokemon/Eevee-lutions. It's kind of sad really.

I actually had a conversation like that, and it started in more or less the same way, even down to her calling herself nerdy.
But then we then spent 3 god damn hours just talking about how much we liked pokemon.
Her favourite pokemon are Hawlucha and Exploud. Her favourite games are Emerald and Heart Gold. She hates gen wunners. She occasionally watches PM's subs. She has an team of pentaperfect IV pokemon.

So they do exist. I was too beta to ask for her number because I felt I might be too old for her. 21 vs 28.

How many people here actually encounter girls like in OPs example? Not to say there aren't people like that out there, but girls who play pokemon and enjoy competitive aren't as uncommon as you think, even if there are more guys into that aspect. There's no need to judge anyone on how much they invest into a game anyway until they start being obnoxious or fake about it.

Seriously. Where have you been? I know both guys and girls who play IRL, granted the ratio of girls to guys who're into competitive play are like 1:8, and the people I theorycraft most with are all guys (don't have the heart to tell the grills how many things they're doing wrong). I don't feel the gender to be special IRL, but the difference is pretty heavy on places like /vp/. If you stop treating grills like shinies, maybe more will admit to being so here.

inb4 TITS OR GTFO, although I'm willing to bet grills can be found in pokeboy and /wfg/ threads at least.

Oof, full casual confirmed. Are you friends? If so, ever tried explaining to them about the meta? Granted it's not something you'd sperge out of the blues, but I know a few grills irl who've told me explicitly they want to learn and git gud.

Granted what brought us together in the first place was a RL league thing, so you do kinda need to git gud at least a little if you're leading. That and since it's RL, there has been some concern over gender balancing...

She's well known in WFG for all sorts of reasons. Being friendly, extremely helpful, having probably the biggest complete living dex with egg moves and various natures.
She puts most of /vp/ to shame.

On the contrary actually. I love theorycrafting and I know my 'mons, calling out moves and abilities better battlers than me don't seem to know about. But I don't showderp and know I'm meh at actual battling, though I'd at least classify myself as above average. If Pokemans were real, I'd want to settle as a professor/assistant of, giving pointers to new trainers and mainly doing indoors research with a few 'mons to help/keep me company. Being THE VERY BEST just isn't my cup of tea.

That and I like UU stuff. Contrary Malamar and Prankster Liepard are really fun to play, but they're UU for a reason. I do love the satisfaction of taking down stuff like M-Kang with them though, from RL experience I've noted that some people do come at you with showderp OU staples but flounder with them in real-time action.

I also first misread EV as IV. IVs are less casual than EVs, r-right?
