Smogon is practically shitting themselves adding all these new megas to the ban list.
For VGC, though, there is absolutely no reason why you wouldn't be running a mega and/or anything gimmicky from gen 6.

Yeah, I completely agree. All those pseudo-legends sure needed a boost. Salamence was horribly underpowered, as was Tyranitar, Mewtwo, etc.

Admittedly, Fairy didn't solve the problems it set out to fix, but when faced with the kinds of Megas Game Freak keeps throwing into the mix, it's hard to say that Megas are fixing anything except making a lot of lower-viability pokemon even more unviable, while ensuring that the same 5-6 will appear in every fucking battle.

Fairy-type matchups can always be adjusted down the line, but any mediocre Pokemon that get mediocre Megas are pretty much perma-fucked, barring a reworking of the Mega system.

Megas add to endgame teambuilding, fairys are just a clusterfuck, I cannot for the life of me figure out what a "fairy" actually is since half the pokemon you'd think would be fairies aren't and a bunch of Pokes you'd think wouldn't be are.

And excluding a weakness to steel their type matchups makes almost zero sense. They should just remove the fucking type, I mean they already confused everyone once with the overnight resistance changes to old Pokemon, and they were basically a retcon lorewise. So why not just retcon again, retcon them the fuck out.

In what? Cutemons? Because that's all Fairy represents for the most part. Fairy hardly follows real fairy lore, other than the Steel and Poison weakness. I would take Fairy more seriously if it wasn't mostly pink and cute crap.

Megas. Fairy is just a typing. Megas mean we get 100+ "new" pokemon instead if real ones or real evolutions and can only use 1 per team. It's a gimmick. The fact that were getting so many makes it redundant that weaker pokes got one when the stat increases are all the same quantity in total.

I like the idea of Megas, but I think the execution sucked ass. Honestly, Megas fixed quite a few Pokemon that had horrible 3rd stage evos. However, it seems like picking which pokemon gets a Mega came down to either fanservice, or just drawing random names from a hate. Pidgeot, Charizard, and Beedrill NEEDED the extra power. Salamence, Chomp, Mewtwo, and T-tar....wtf?

Honestly, I would have liked Megas to have been relegated to full on 4th stage evolution to Pokemon who were obsolete like Charizard, Pidgeot, Gallade and Ampharos.

They needed to do stat and movepool adjustments across the board to rebalance a lot of stuff from old generations and some of the stuff from new gens, it wouldn't even be hard to do stat adjustments.

They also needed to add evolutions to 1 stage shitmons. Honestly I even preferred babies to shit crypto-4th stage evos, at least the new babies sometimes make LC more interesting. Megas just make OU less interesting and force even more arbitrary bans to make the game even remotely playable. Without M-Kanga and M-Gengar bans it's impossible to enjoy this game at a high level, especially in Nintendo's chosen competitive singles format, 3v3. VCG Doubles format helps level out of the inherent imbalances in the game but it's a band-aid solution. Singles has always been the fan favorite format and it's absolutely unplayable since X/Y.

Fairy type was an absolute train wreck of a failure

Gamefreak clearly had no idea why dragons were OP and plenty of them have the stats and moves to get around them, not to mention they made this gen's pseudo another fucking dragon. Should have advertised them for nerfing fighting. Also, the idea of using a new type to balance the type chart is laughable when they made fairy typing the most OP in the game by being a pretty good offensive type and probably the best defensive type in the game (Except maybe Steel, though steel's weaknesses are far easier to exploit.) Every pokemon in the game would be buffed significantly if they received fairy type.

It buffed fire for no reason, nerfed bug for no reason and crushed the niches of struggling types (ice and psychic) to the point where receiving those typings was a flat nerf to the pokemon.

Also, the designs are universally shit for fairy aside from Xerneas and given the lack of fairy influence of both the retconned and new fairies for the most part (Even if they were just making a generic cutemon type, they could at least actually make them cute) and the fact that they made the type balance even worse, it became the worst addition to the franchise to date.

Still, I guess we can hope for a nerf in the future.
