>>21700772I'm not saying the movie isn't bad. It is child fare. The only part of that movie I will actually defend is the first 10 or so minutes, and it's that part that made me like Mewtwo. The exposition with Mewtwo's origin was so different in style and tone from what Pokemon was established to be, it was like watching a completely different anime. The dark sci-fi themes of artificially creating life for personal gain and questioning the purpose of your existence made Mewtwo really interesting and cool. Furthermore, Mewtwo confronted the premise of the franchise itself by likening it to slavery. For all that, I remain a Mewtwo fan to this day.
For a shallow advertisement vessel it went a bit above what would be expected, being the closest Pokemon has ever come to deconstructing itself. As anons have said above most Pokemon movies don't even have such graces.
So yeah, now I'm backing up to "It's good in comparison!" and you might say the third one was better in that regard. I don't have more to argue as I don't recall much of it.
