Why is this thing on every ORAS ou team I've faced so far? Does it do something against a Mega worth taking a slot on a team for?

It traps and kills any steel type not named Heatran. Salamence, Diancie and a few other sweepers love having their checks removed by this thing.

Ferrothorn and Skarmory are everywhere, so Magnezone is everywhere. People want to play with their shiny new Megas, so the Steels that wall them have to go.

It's become a trapper meta. People run Shed Shell on the Steels to lure out Magnezone, and then Dugtrio traps Magnezone. Then you have Wobbuffet and Gothitelle as additional trappers, for stuff like Choiced mons and Chansey respectively.
