Because the anon that just answered seemed to think you meant from gen 1.

Such answer is easy, because you could just take the top 2 used pokemon from every gen, pick non repeating types, and there you go.

Gyarados, Dragonite and Dugtrio are garbage before gen 3

Snorlax, Gengar and Zapdos would be mandatory, the other 3 is iffy, Starmie is probably needed too

And Charizard was great in gen 2 and 3, before rocks became so prominent. Even after than it got gud. Eventually.

Charizard was decent in Gen 2 and pretty bad in all other gens.
Marowak was actually very good in Gen 2, but mediocre at best in other gens.
Instead of those two, Snorlax and Zapdos would be much better, the former in particular was top-tier in the first three generations.

That's a square interpretation of the sentence.

It's far more interesting to think of a team of any 6 pokemon that could be viable in every generation, had they existed in them. The same team used to defeat hazard fest of gen 4, weather wars of gen 5 and non-recharge Hyperbeam...

You have to be retarded to think that's the intention or that this would be a difficult thing the way you describe. The meta evolving past gen IV means that more powerful and more useful things have come along to change it since the mechanics have not changed. Otherwise the meta would have been unchanged.

Gen 1-4 Venusaur was garbage. Gen 5+ running Alakazam is asking to get destroyed. But I guess only having one mediocre poke per gen is acceptable.

The thing about it is that what really holds a team together is your utility and defenses. Unfortunately, this is pretty underplayed and a lot of the time these pokemon don't get anywhere near the credit that the actual threats do in the tiers, so it would be challenging just interpreting what sort of license you could take when you are trying to define what is "viable." There's also the fact that every generation has different threats and strategies and walls to deal with and one team almost certainly could never cover for every trend across all generations.
