FireRed and LeafGreen eliminated or curtailed a lot of good features introduced in the games:
No breeding until postgame because the daycare on the mainland only took one Pokemon.
No day/night cycle and you couldn't evolve Eevee into Umbreon and Espeon. Now there's 3 more Eevees that need to be worked in.
Berries in the postgame only, which had to be tediously collected.
Impossible to get a dark type and only one steel evolutionary line before beating the champion, because they still tried to keep the old lore that there's only 151 Pokemon.
And now we have a lot of new moves, the physical/special split, the retyping of Mr Mime, the Jigglypuff and Clefairy lines to fairy, And we've got mega evolutions.
These games need some serious retconning.
