Mega Evolutions have ruined the metagame.

The pokemon that need mega evolutions don't get them
Most megas become too overpowered, or are very predictable when you come up against them
GameFreak ruined the value of megas by giving too many away as of OR/AS

Does anyone else feel the same way? Why were mega evolutions necessary?

Pokemon meta was always shit might as well just strap in an enjoy the ride.
Although it has made several Pokemon viable and added an extra layer of depth to battle.

They've added a strong central point to team building (thereby increasing both the options of team structure, and options of pokemon to use), increased viability of a lot of previously bad or falling 'mons and generally speaking have averaged out the playing field.

The biggest issue they have is when they make broken ones, they seem to be VERY broken.

I agree, particularly with Mega Kangaskhan. Cool idea; broken piece of shit. It's not unkillable, but it's a pain in the fucking ass, especially in singles/multis. Two hits in one turn? Yes, that is SO fair. Fucking bullshit. And every faggot uses it because they couldn't win otherwise.

A huge portion of Charizard's power comes from the fact that you don't know for sure which version it is until it activates. And even within the two, they have plenty of variations. Mixed Y, TankX, BulkyDDX, etc..

Scizor and Garchomp are good with or without a Mega. Scizor in particular is hard to distinguish as the Mega as both Mega and non-Mega fit on almost any team comfortably.

I guess I'll give you Kanga, though, as broken as it is unpredictability was not a facet of that.

It is just that Game Freak has no concept of fairness and balance, and (mis)used it to cash in popularity regardless of the larger impacts it has on the metagame.

They could have made it good, but they opted not to in favor of populist appeals.

You fucking knew what this shit was coming in, why are you complaining? Go elsewhere if you don't want to deal with the inherent imbalance in the Pokemon Meta and a developer that only barely cares about managing it properly.

Could it be better, if GameFreak gave more of a shit about it? Fuck yeah it could. Could we describe and outline good ways of it being better? Absolutely. But we all know the likelihood of that happening is about as likely as Pokemon actually ending.

So either start sucking dick or fuck off.

I feel like megas should have been alternate evolutions or regular evolutions for the ones that needed them. The whole idea of megas turns Pokemon into digimon and it basically forces people to use them. They aren't a surprise because its really obvious when you see one on an opponents team. I also really hate having to wait the extra couple of seconds to watch the Pokemon mega evolve. This gets increasingly annoying when you and your opponent do it on the same turn.

I'd also like to add that I also feel that megas ruined the meta, forcing people to use specific ones, like kang, gengar, and charizard. People don't use them because they fit a niche in their team, they use them because of how strong they are, which creates a stagnant metagame

If your history with Kanga was strictly during it's time in OU then you probably don't realize it's unpredictability. When it was first released it pretty much had one standard set but as time has gone on, people have started to utilize it's other options a lot more in every meta that it's commonly seen.

It can run seismic toss, low kick, ice punch, substitute, drain punch, rock slide or even go mixed with ice beam/fire blast to deal with it's rocky helmet "counters".
