Has anyone ever had a Torkoal as part of their team? Is this thing actually good?

His stats seem pretty good, aside from the lacking Sp.Def, and he can learn some cool moves.

If you're talking ingame, its actually pretty good considering it offensive stats are balanced and it has things like Body Slam and Flamethrower at a reasonable level, the paralysis chance for body slam helps a lot too
Competitive wise, its not all that good

I always really liked this guy's design, but I've honestly never used him. I'm considering giving him a try for AS, although the shite speed stat is disappointing. But at the very least, he could make the playthrough more challenging. Cause it looks like Gamefreak is content with making their gen 6 games stupidly easy.

It only worked like a third of the time. He just can't make good use of that defense stat.

Torkoal, whenever available, always gets a spot on my ingame teams. I just run Iron Defense and Amnesia, boost whichever stat is most needed until they're full, then heal and go to town.

In competitive, he's sadly no more than 'okay', i suppose.

Even if this thread was started by a pony fag, the subject was pokemon. Everyone in here was discussing Torkoal in the the context of pokemon, which is actually kind of nice. Hell, if "stealth pony threads" encourage discussion of lesser known Pokemon and contain virtually no traces of the actual pony shit, then I'm all for them. But when people like you start bitching about them and acknowledging 'muh ponies', the pony fags have won.

For a hypothetical moveset, I was thinking:

>Heat Wave (for STAB)
>Solar Beam (for weakness coverage)
>Amnesia (to boost that lacking Sp.Def)

For a fourth move, should I give him something interesting, like Stone Edge or Gyro Ball (given Torkoal's shitty speed, it could be devastating)? Or should I just do Sunny Day to power up that Solar Beam?

Ray Rizzo (aka the most handsome and alpha as fuck VGC player) used torkoal in worlds 2013 to mixed success, he came in at 20 something in the world. his reasoning was that it could underspeed and OHKO amoonguss in trick room with fire gem eruption. Now that there's no fire gem and torkoal would have to rely on specs for that kind of power, I don't see much use for it in the doubles format. as far as singles, I don't know

If you're gonna give it Sunny Day, you should also consider the other Pokemon on your team, and if they'd benefit from it or not.

And if you're just doing in-game buff moves are really a non-issue.

I used this in my monofire team, It tanks every physical hit and works fine. I reached around 1700 on the ladder with it so I guess it's ok.
