>>21749729Before I played the videogames, I thought that Nidoking was one of the coolest looking Pokemon, alongside Charmeleon, Scyther, Rhydon and others.
When I got Yellow at age 10 (2001), everything changed. You were right in that Nidoran helps out against Brock, his Double Kick was one of the most helpful things to get me through his gym, Mt. Moon and so many Normal Pokemon. The fact that he can be taught lot of TM/HM moves like Surf, Thunderbolt, Dig and Earthquake is great, too.
Nidoking is my favorite Pokemon, and I often consider Nidoran M. my very first Pokemon (sorry, Pikachu, but Yellow doesn't allow you to evolve and you're only useful for Misty's gym, random Spearows and cute reactions). I do wish it wasn't AS popular, since I see a lot of trainer sheets, including my own, involve him, so I kind of feel like I'm jumping the bandwagon. But I do have a lot of fond memories evolving him with a Moonstone, getting the Boulder Badge easily with Double Kick, using Horn Attack as a powerful normal move, pitting him against Poison Types for the insane resistance, etc.
Thank you, Nidoking.
