I wanna play through ORAS using some "non-starter" pokemon as my starter. I've been thinking of using trapinch. What do you think would make a good alternative starter?

I just looked at the dex and Hoenn has a lot of 3 stage evolutions. I'd go with Magnemite (can be caught early in ORAS), Lotad or Aron.

I like Mightyena, I don't like any of the starters. It's not good by any stretch of the imagination, but playing through the game with floopy ears so early for amie sounds great.

salamence is not really suited for a starter, since it's first and second stage are fairly useless, and it evolves very late.

But in all honesty, Trapinch wouldn't really have any good moves early on, so it may be difficult.
