Pokemon Showdown DDoS's pretty much happen once in a while, so it isn't sparking anything at all. And they aren't such a big deal to the average battler as they are simply mundane and inconvenient for interrupted funtimes.

Smogon only got banhappy at the turn of Gen 6, and I'll be honest and admit that there were many broken things in need of a ban. Mega is a fancy word for same-bst-as-most-Legendary Pokemon, so some getting booted was expected. Calm your tits and drink your milk.

But the fact that grandfather clocks being an excuse to start banning things like Swagger and Baton Pass is hardly an excuse. It doesn't help at all they feel the need to constantly suspect test the same pokemon multiple times until it's banned, i.e. Deoxys

There are less bans than usual.
Last gen there was DrizzleSwim, Manaphy, Deoxys, Blaziken, Excadrill, Genesect, and Landorus-I, 7 bans. Things like Garchomp and Latios were banned temporarily.
This gen there was M-Kanga, M-Gengar, M-Lucario, Aegislash, M-Mawile, 5 bans.

there's even more if you count the rebanning of things that were dropped to OU like Gene and the Deoxys forms (technically Deo-N and Blaziken too but that was what, a week before those got unanimously booted to ubers? those don't count)

keep in mind that you're comparing an entire Gen (like 2.5-3 years) to less than a year by the time the Mawile ban was enacted.
