>>21770242Sure. It's not integral to the game. But it's a pretty basic feature involved in every single comparable game across the board at this point.
It'd be like... not being able to change your name. Sure, it doesn't really affect the game. The main point of the game doesn't revolve around whatever stupid name you put in.
But how ass backwards would it seem? Hell, it's partially because of being able to put in a name that customization is super popular. Pokemon has always been about the player being in the game, not just controlling a separate character. The addition of a female PC in Crystal with absolutely nothing beyond cosmetic differences between the two PCs all the way up until now only adds it being about the player self inserting, not trying to make the PCs be distinct characters.
And all of that aside, adding some individuality, however basic to a game with a strong multiplayer component, even if it's just for the "feeling" of it is pretty important when it comes to games. Hell, from a "business/design" standpoint, the creation of an individual avatar ties players more closely to the character, and therefore the game, and is likely to engender better feelings about the game and, depending on how the avatar stays between games, future business. Or at least make the customer more likely to buy your products again.
No one was complaining about it being in XY. And all the people who complain about it not being in ORAS probably are still going to buy the games anyway, or at least aren't not going to buy them only because of that. It's not gonna lose sales on its own, but it'd be another tick box in a loss of customer confidence.
