>>21779327You think you understand piracy, but you don't. It's statistically been proven time and time again that pirates spend MORE on their media than moralfags through independent studies. What it breaks down to is simply pirates are larger consumers of media than non-pirates, since they don't have to restrict their selves with financial responsibilities in order to indulge in something that they have a large chance of not liking.
In turn, it broadens their horizons and gives them more opportunity to experiment with their tastes since there's no financial risk involved with trying out something new. As an example; I would have never given a game like Cave Story a chance if I had to pay for it before knowing if I'd like it. I wouldn't have given it any other thought than just being a classic Metroid styled game. It was only because the game was freeware that I decided to give it a try since it wouldn't cost me anything. Now, it has a special place in my heart as being one of my favorite indie games, and when it came out for Wii and 3DS I purchased both versions even though I has already played them before. If it wasn't for me having the opportunity to play before I pay, I wouldn't have even contemplated trying the game out. It would have been a huge missed opportunity.
I still pay for media, but I'm selective about what I pay for. I flex my financial savvy in a manner that benefits me while encouraging media creators to focus on products that stand out. I'm in charge of what I buy and what I don't, not them.
All that said, Pokemon is a series that will always sell well anyway, so in nor buying a copy of it, they hardly even see a scratch in their sales figures.
