I can't believe they ruined the remake of my favorite games.

It was so easy. They had the engine, they had the layout. Just make the same thing with the new features and mechanics. I wouldn't have even cared if there were no new megas. But no Frontier? Dumbed down areas? This shit is unacceptable.

I guess they really did spend all their money on visuals. They're no different from any other AAA studio now. Fuck them.

I guess I'll wait for Z and hope they didn't royally fuck it up.

Not so.
In Battle Tower or various knock-offs, all I do is want to beat the leader(s) or whatever.
If I have 7 places with varying sets of rules, I'll spend 7 times more time on it.

Also, normal battles are bland. Having variety helps.

The only rational excuse is that it would be too hard to program all the facilities and formats in the new engine and they opted to spend their resources elsewhere, like the visuals and story. Basically their priorities are assbackwards and it's inexcusable.

The point is that we can still blame GF for not putting in a good portion of the game. It wasn't presumptuous of us to want Emerald content that has returned twice since then, when HGSS got all the crystal content. People aren't upset because they set their hopes too high or had irrational expectations; they expected something reasonable and have a right to be upset, even if this isn't the first point at which BF seemed unlikely

I only got into that kind of battling during X/Y. In the original Emerald I only went to the Battle Frontier to catch a Sudowoodo you could find there and I might have tried the battle factory once. I don't think I'll be missing out much.

Battle Factory: Rent shitty/normal/good Pokémon while trading them.

Battle Pyramid: Explore a giant-ass dungeon with wild uncatchable mons(and shinies), fight againt trainers, then fight the last boss.

Battle Tower
Battle Palace: Same as Tower, with partial auto-play.
Battle Dome: Same as Tower, only you can see your opponent's team.
Battle Arena: Same as Tower, only you are "judged". Worthless if using the right team.

Nothing but BT clones.

I'll admit Battle Pike is diverse enough.

You must not have been that into it, which is fine, but to those of us who were, it was the best game mode ever and what we were most excited about by far. It seemed like a no-brainer to include it, and so we've been hyped since May and even before that. It's been 5 years now since we've had a battle frontier, which means we can't get that experience in two entire generations. That's what's really dissapointing.

I have to think that most people here are really into the post game of any pokemon game, especially a remake. It looks like the actual, battle-centric postgame of ORAS is exactly the same as XY, which is shitty. The little side quests at the end are nice, but a poor substitute.

Yeah, the storymode can be kind of shitty, but few people here care about that much, and it's not like they've ever fixed it in a remake. It was all of the other features added by HGSS that everyone loved. They didn't do anything to make GSC worse, and they did a lot to make it better.

Kalos has plenty of potential, it was just rushed an unpolished since they spent most of their resources on the engine and new features/functions. Z gives them an opportunity to polish it, and it could easily be a great game.

It was a great region with good, albeit few pokemon. X/Y failed because you could tell it was GF's first excursion into 3D. They made the transition look nice in terms of the pokemon themselves adapted to polygons, but that came at the price of rushing other things. The enemy team, while interesting in concept, was handled poorly. They were so afraid to alienate past player that they held their hand and gave them constant reminders of the reasons they got playing in the first place, even if it meant making the game even easier.. Last but not least, the technical hiccups were far too many.

If they learn from their mistakes LEL Z version will definitely be one of the best Pokemon games.

It's clear to me that GF is taking another safe step and is indicative of future installments. They've put a lot of time into ORAS but are timid to go all the way for a number of reasons. Sales, however, is the largest. They already removed one of the best features of this generation in an attempt to keep the different games 'themed' and selling. This is also a way of breaking expectations which GF seems to be panicking about. It's probable that GF is trying to increase its userbase to max potential by releasing NEW, SHINY, but shallow games knowing full well that its established base will purchase no matter what. It's clear that GF is scared of releasing a definitive Pokemon game. This could be out of fear that the sales of the following games would be smaller or that the sales of the current games would be the same whether they poured more time into making it content rich or not. Why put in the extra effort if it will sell all the same?

Gamefreak more than anything likes to keep their options open and be unpredictable. We may see some bizarre Emerald sequel that ties in with X and Y. The later installments of this gen should be very interesting.
