Serious question here: What was wrong with it?

I liked all the improvements made. The 3D models look good, trainer customization was awesome, the new Pokemon were really good competitively and aesthetically, the online match making mechanics were great, Mega evolutions gave quite a few "shitmons" viability, and I liked the addition of Fairy types to balance dragons and give Steel and Poison types more offensive presence.

Guess it's just one of those things that's cool to hate now.

Fairy type being an ungodly disaster. Made the type chart even worse, typing itself is stupidly OP and the designs for the new type are terrible overall.
Crap load of gen 1 referencing. Unlike BW1 which partially distracted me from the fact the franchise is stagnant as fuck, XY decide to announce it with a mega phone.
Easy as shit, even with xp share
Fairly weak post game

Still, Megas, visuals, amie and the region were pretty cool

Too much focus on aesthetic experience and surface details while neglecting and simplifying the core gameplay.

They've already ditched customization, and stuff like Megas and the Fairly type were poorly conceived and have created more problems than they've solved.

You know, I keep hearing people bitching and moaning about how horribly imbalanced Fairies are, but I'm not understanding why. They're weak to Steel and Poison types which are the 2 types that were the worst offensively. Why are people so butthurt about this?

I swear, when Fairies were first released, people whined about how weak the type was. Now they're complaining about how overpowered they are. Damn.

All I want is a Pokemon game where every trainer has more than two Pokemon at a time. I want to fear the next trainer because I don't know anything about their team except they have five to six ready to take me on.

Meanwhile, this guy beat everything in the Kanto region and rules as its champion. Canonically.

RGBY had more difficulty due to leaving so much for the player to figure out on their own - we weren't even told what MOVES do.

BW2's challenge mode is a bit close, since it adds new pokemon, moves and items to trainers. Of course, if you aren't playing it on a flashcart then you are shit out of luck.

Eh, for what he has to work with, he's at least doing something right. He's gotalakazam with Psychic and Reflect, Gyarados with Hyper Beam, And Charizard with Fire Blast. Exeggutor could use a grass move, but Blue's sort of an idiot and probably evolved it before it could learn any grass moves. Seems legit.
