It's not about making it easier. At least not for me anyway. Before, BW, you use your starter, throughout the whole game, and it becomes easy. The BW system made it better but with XY, you can change your team whenever you want without falling behind. I'm at the 8th badge and my whole team has changed since Valerie. And doing this believe it or not actually does make it difficult.
Point being, it's for variety. If you accept the challenge of shifting your team around constantly, then it provides more challenge. Without the EXP Share, you're stuck using your starter the whole time or you're endlessly grinding.
