So with game freak saying they want you to be able to complete the pokedex with just 3ds games, what about darkrai and jirachi.
Or even mew. I don't think I've seen a mew event in the UK since Gen 4 and I'm pretty sure we never got the darkrai event

yes but that has nothing to do with gamefreak saying you can complete the dex with just the 3DS games, because that doesn't include events

Britfag here, pretty sure Darkrai was a GAME distribution back in 2011. I've got one that I remember getting legit anyway.

I remember being mad as fuck as a kid about the fact I couldn't complete the pokedex on Silver because they never did the shitty gs ball distribuition in my country, I even managed to get mew with that RBY glitch.

This. A lot of distribution methods are odd. Like when I got the Halloween Shiny Gengar for XY, I literally got the LAST code card.

The guy at gamestop was even as confused as I was because originally Nintendo would send them a cartridge and let them set up a download hot-spot.

Why the shift to a physical code with limited supples?

At GAME here in the UK the codes were printable on till receipts. So there were enough to go round but you did ave to ask for them.

I wonder whether part of the reason they're moving away from the cartridge system is to prevent people selling them?

Granted, I don't know how big of a problem that was, and I doubt it'd be the only reason even if it was one.
