It feels like it's effort just to try gimping yourself to get a challenge. For example, in a typical JRPG if a boss was hard, it was usually they either had a gimmick that if abused, made them easy/normal, or you just had to grind a bit. In Pokemon X, you can turn EXP share off, but you'll just go to 2-3hitko'ing other teams instead of 1-2hitko'ing while receiving slightly more damage. This essentially just makes the challenge that you're spending more PP per battle. And I had to constantly switch pokemon just to barely be underleveled. It also doesn't help that a lot of the trainers' movesets are retarded and sometimes don't even have 4 moves.
This is what people complain about when they say Pokemon's getting easier. Pokemon was never challenging compared to other games at the time, but the times when you had to make your pokemon stronger by getting to a certain level to learn some ultra powerful move or to evolve so it can kick ass are gone with the easy EXP curve and how easily these moves can be gotten.
There's nothing wrong with that since it's convenient, and the games are catered towards kids, but for older(not necessarily full blown adults like 4chan) audiences who experienced a pokemon game before, a game that's too easy ends up just catering towards the competitive audience instead of being an actual enjoyable game itself.
