To be fair, this is a game that is impossible to loose.
Difficulty here is largely a matter of endurance. Did you have enough HP/PP to make it through Route X? No? Well, just return to the start and try again.
It's not Fire Emblem. Your pokemon and you are immortal. Situations may arise that your individual monsters may be at a disadvantage dealing with, but you have heals and antidotes and revives, and if all those fail, just go back to the start and try again.
Your complaints about easiness remind me of another video game franchise: Devil may cry. After DMC 1, there were two groups: people who had enjoyed it and wanted a DMC 2, and hardcore fans who wanted a *harder* DMC 2. Capcom obliged them. Many of the people who had enjoyed DMC 1 bought 2, found the difficulty a turn off, but just put the game down and forgot about it. Meanwhile the hardcore fans LOVED it, and screamed to make DMC 3 even harder. So capcom did... And it was a colossal failure because the difficulty was so high that only the tiny fractional remainder of their hardcore fan base remained... And even they didn't like it that much.
In summary: if you're finding it too easy: make your own damn self imposed challenge.
