You know it only just occurred to me.

Why IS fighting weak to fairy? Dark makes sense because fairytale logic, and dragon because fairy was pretty much specifically made to counter dragons.

But why fighting? Did it need countering really badly?

His fall wasn't due to magic, it was his own carelessness. He shouldn't have let that potion out of his sight while bathing.

Is it weird that I based the type effectiveness on Superman Logic? Superman being the (physically) strongest hero in dc represents fighting, but he's still susceptible to magical attacks (i.e fairy). I doubt gf wants to reference western comics, but that's my justification.

Fairies in stories can easily determine the fate of a knight/warrior depending on how you treat them.

Also real fairies are actually dicks that act as a noob filter for anyone in a journey.
I don't know if GF thought so deep into it though.

Yeah but let's face it, when GF was designing faeries they were thinking of stuff like the Good Fairy from Wizard of Oz, not the Fair Folk. The idea of faeries being cruel manipulative bastards has been pretty much removed from common knowledge.

Besides, if they WERE based on the Fair Folk, they wouldn't be strong against Dark, because that's basically what they are.

It's because dragon and fighting were somewhat the strongest in OU. Only flying attacks were a real threat to them since people somewhat avoided psychic Pokemon.

But if you want to be "rational" about it, magic being a warrior's weakness is a common theme in fairy-tails. It's like how psychic=brain over brawns.

My logic is:
Steel = Technology -> Technology kills myths
Poison = Pollution -> Pollution kills the forests where fairies live

What about fairy being NE against fire?

you need to read a few books about Mythology,

It's not steel that hurt faires...It's iron.

and since there's no "Iron" type so obviously it's steel.

The Fairy typing is clearly based on folklore.
