Aster was her daughter. She outright calls the Whismur her daughter in Mossdeep, it says something like 'mum', and at Sky Pillar before she knocks you out she cries and says something about how Aster 'left' her and that they were going to be together soon or something. The Whismur was right next to her during all this so she wasn't talking about it.
So basically Aster is a surrogate child and Zinnia is fucking crazy. It's not too much of a stretch to imagine that the entire Delta Episode was a fluke and that she wasn't some special chosen one and instead a random who nearly got everyone killed and some random 12 year old had to pick up the pieces and stop everyone from dying.
Truly, the lore runs deeper than we thought.
