I disagree. The game looks amazing, colourful, and add good features like the dexnav. BF would've been the icing on the cake, and the lack thereof pisses me off greatly, but I wouldn't say they're the worst. DP are the worst. Followed by XY. bye.

I've played Pokemon since I picked up Red on the English release date. HG/SS was my favorite. I hated Gen 3. XY is still the worst given all the wasted space and the bland empty world (chamber of emptiness sea spirits den power plants etc) and no postgame, annoying characters, bad plot and world design, and ugly interface. ORAS is my new fave I think. Don't listen to people whining about the lack of a single boring feature and undiscovered megas. The megas would have been leaked before they ever touched the game anyway.

How much did they really change from the originals?

I played Emerald and I felt like it was such a chore to muscle through and X/Y although fun, did have its fair share of disappointments.

Should I just skip this shit?

There's more or less no content from Emerald, just the R/S material + the Deoxys storyline and a fuckton of legendaries to catch, some of which are locked behind getting pokemon from both OR and AS, and the Battle Resort as opposed to the Battle Tower.

I guess I assumed there wasn't much of a difference between R/S and Emerald in the first place. That kind of puts me in a weird place,

My personal favorite has been 5th Gen, and I'm just looking for a similar experience.

What makes you say that? It was really the only game I've replayed and its unique experience (starting off with only the new 150 pogmin) was a really nice touch that made the game not feel like such a retread.

How? Although Team Plasma looked dumb they actually were the only group with a real plan and some ideals to back them up.

That moment when their castle crashes up through the ground was intense as hell, and made it feel you're in an actual world where disasters matter on a greater scale than a few NPCs going "Wow did that lake just blow up?"
