XY are great games that gave the big leap forwards that the franchise needed to stay fresh, though they aren't perfect either. It's just a shame that they were shoddily programmed, and that the rivals suck, but the rest is great.
What's happening with these games is the same thing that happens at the start of every gen. Once the next gen arrives, most will look back at Gen VI as a fine addition. And plus, it hasn't even ended yet. Z-X2Y2-XY version might end up being GOAT. We'll have to wait and see.
