the game saves on cartridge, not on the 3DS. Formatting the 3DS doesn't remove your X and Y saves.

Yeah, I don't even put my living dex on the bank cos i'm paranoid their servers get wiped out or something, as stupid as that may sound.
It's a pain having only 5 or 6 boxes for breeding and stuff though

I have the exact same problem, but opposite. I'm afraid my save game gets corrupted and lose everything in the process, so I put everything that's worth something in the Bank.
Bummer my Internet is doing odd things lately, so am kinda scared it wipes out while in the middle of saving the Bank.
