They added a lot more stuff in the playthrough, man, and the storyline as a whole is much better and everything comes together very well. It definitely tops RSE for sure, ignoring no Battle Frontier.

Yes, 100%.
I did not like the personality of OR's characters, I can understand purposefully making a character unlikeable for the sake of them being evil, but the characters were more unlikeable in the sense that they were boring.
AS, however had love-able evil characters, who you could tell felt passionate about what they do.

While they did flesh out the teams enough so they have different characterizations and slightly different motifs, the games are still 95% the fucking same.

I'm not sure if it would be worth it to you if you don't want to play through the same game twice. I have both because I have one for game completion and the other for replaying through. Team Aqua really is fucking great though.
