No. I enjoyed them, but the wild pokemon selection is so shitty. It's full of boring regional birds, rattata, and zubat.
The level scaling is utter shit and the postgame is still barren. Following Pokemon doesn't make it 10/10. It's a neat and cute feature, but that's about it.

BW2 and ORAS (to an extent) are better.

The main reason HGSS is my favorite is it just seems so much longer than recent games. Having 2 regions to explore made the game feel so much more complete to me. It's a shame they didn't have ORAS Hoenn combine with another region...

A copy pasta Battle Frontier that offered nothing at all. It is worse than the Battle Maison in ORAS. At least there you can use new Megas. With the Battle Frontier in HGSS there was literally no reason to use it over Platinums.

HGSS were nice leisurely games, but I gotta say overall, platinum was the best relative to its generation. Perfect diversity, game scales nicely with the best E4/champion battle, box legendary quest was pretty cool, and it fixed a LOT of problems with the versions before it.

Every game afterwards should use it as their base model.

Actually, Gen 1 and 2 were just fads games back then. It was Gen 3 that showed that Pokemon isn't just a fad and turned it to the juggernaut it is today.

You can't use this as your base for first games though. It doesn't bring us anything a first game is supposed to have. And GF isn't going to give us a BF in first games. Its been used to sell third games since its inception.
