Johto: Same as above, but with some cool japanese themes prettying it up.
Hoenn: Beaches, Deserts, Volcanoes, gorgeous region, great music to boot.
Sinnoh: Swamps, Deserts, Snow, super-comfy if not that memorable music, interesting navigational gimmick of mt. coronet.
Unova: lots of environmental variety crippled by straight lines and routes.
Kalos: All the problems of Unova, but with the most fucked up and abrupt changes in climate imaginable.
