BW2 was probably the worst pokemon game to ever exist. I wish I could erase gen 5 out of my mind. Shit pokemon. Shit playthrough. Shit game.
I almost agree with OP. Until XY came out GSC and HGSS were my favorite. But to me XY took a game that was in the shitter from BW and BW2 and made it worth playing again.

Never even played the first gen 3 games when they came out - I started on RBY, got crystal, then came back in for HG/SS. I think just before HG/SS came out I started emulating RSE and I didn't really like it at first. I'm just hyped for all those legendaries, the new megas, and being able to fly anywhere. Also, mega rayquaza.

Despite the paths being non-linear, there's a lot of blocking, and the only time GSC got non-linear was at the middle. And guess what? Three gym leaders stagnate due to that. Even DPPt suffered from it.

In terms of overall features and additions, such as the new online stuff, Amie, customization and etc, I prefer Gen VI. But it's lacking in the difficulty and post game department. If Z had a Battle Frontier-esque area, post-E4 campaign, and a Challenge mode, /vp/ would love it.

BW is best for story.
BW2 is best for challenging gameplay.
ORAS is best for quality of gameplay overall.
Emerald is best for postgame outside of Biking Simulator, where ORAS wins.

Johto is a great region, and many of the features are top notch, but it suffers horribly from the shitty story GS gave us.

I'll always return to Johto, I had more nostalgia for it than even Kanto. But GF can do better (and they have).

But I want that fucking PokeGear in more games.

Christ, while I Enjoyed BW2 immensely in how developed it was, I still cannot forgive GF taking away the following pokemon mechanic.

Also, imho it looked the best - the steady march towards full 3D in Gen VI or pixelated full-sprites in Gen V were just not my taste

as for Platinium, I never really had the drive to finish it
