I don't think they were the best (still feel that is Gen 2 or the Gen 2 Remakes) but I don't see them as being as terrible as many seem to say. I know the post game wasn't good, but the game added some fun online additions, trainer customization, and I felt the region was solid.

That's the problem. The game had an amazing shell, but the story and gameplay were completely hollow.

ORAS had the opposite problem. It had meaty content, but no flashy outer shell (customization, frontier, following Pokemon) which pissed a lot of fans off.

It had potential. Everything was set up to be the best games yet, but lazy ass GF fucked up yet again. It needed basically everything ORAS had:

>Vivid colors
>Hopefully DLC BF

I really hope they'll pull a Gen IV miracle where XY are shit, but Z/X2/Y2 are amazing.

X and Y were great. The pokemon 3D pokemon design / visual style / animations were so crucial to the future of the franchise and were done perfectly. There was huge pokemon diversity in the early game so you could choose your team, the game was nice and long and online and multiplayer worked great.

Anyone complaining about the story in pokemon games is a moron. People complaining about 'post-game' I personally don't understand - post game is battling your friends or online and finishing your dex. That's more post-game than 99% of games out there. The game did have a couple of post-game battling options anyway.

It did have some major issues though:
Shit engine
Shit Lumiose
Shit mega pokemon idea

Other than that it was great.

X and Y were very good but with the resources at hand GF could have done better.

They got a section of fans believing that Pokemon games would be proper narrative RPGs after B/W and B/W2 and those fans are obviously disappointed. Personally, I see the B/W experiment as the failure / outlier.

People don't seem to care / realise just how much easier X and Y made breeding and training pokemon, either. That alone makes the games so much better to me.

Hasn't that always been the case though? People use third versions for comparison, forgetting that XY isn't.

I expect X2/Y2?Z to be the best.

I'd argue Lumiose is the best city if you ignore the camera problem. It has all necessary stuff, fluff that is actually pretty useful, and even has transport and three Fly locations. It just needs a better camera.

Daily reminder that people think XY had terrible animations because they only took it from the status screen.

They forget that in-battle, Pokemon have various idle animations. They can never be found anywhere else. Stuff include Pangoro doing a fist press, etc.

I liked XY because the 3D thing was a step foward, and the game in general was a lot more playable then gen 4 and 5.
But I like ORAS more because its the things i liked about XY plus better story, character development and music.
