The trick is to turn off battle animations, have a lot of balls, and then be doing something else while you mash A throwing your ball of choice.

Pretty much this exact story except when I was like 11 or something and with Arceus.

Felt real good, for a kid to capture a legendary in one ball? Shit was cash, I even remember where I was sitting at the time.
