They properly didn't like it because of their sleep clause. Vivillon is another Pokémon that would do incredibly well without that rule.

It's a different meta, like how Smash Bros's more hardcore meta is based around Melee still. I personally prefer VGC, but that's no sense bashing one way or the other.

The amazing thing about Smogon's meta is that while it bans things for overcentralizing, it itself is based on overcentralization.

Sneaky Pebbles are just one example, something that can entirely make or break an entire pokemon simply by the fact that they resist it or are weak to it. I rarely see a serious team without them.

How about SkarmBliss? That was on every single competitive team.

Then they go ahead and ban OHKO moves, and having multiple Pokemon put to sleep, and, of all things, Swagger, simply because it doesn't fit their idea of fair. "IT'S TOO LUCK-BASED", they cry, while simultaneously using Scald and having crits exist. Wait, we can't let someone boost their Evasion, despite the infinity of ways to get around that. That's unfair. It makes me feel not in control!

Smogon's metagame is based around reducing RISKS to your team in the teambuilding stage. That's why they can't handle anything that can get around their defenses - they feel that if they have to change their entire team and strategy to beat this new threat, it's "overcentralization". Now everyone has to have a pokemon with Own Tempo, something which isn't as viable in the old meta! Gasp!

Instead of embracing change, they ban it. Ban, ban, ban. Make our tiers based on usage, but ban based on power.

TL;DR: Smogon sucks because instead of embracing metagame, they ban anything that goes against what they can handle. It's like insisting that you play Fox Only Final Destination, when there are plenty of viable stages and characters besides that, as any meleefag knows.
