Started with Blue. RSE is the gen I rommed the most - didn't play my Ruby much but have tons of hours on my Emerald ROM that I lost. Sinnoh's the region I played most on cart, 400 hours with an almost complete National Dex.

Gen 3 and 4 are my top faves, which one tops the other depends on the day. Gen 4 had shitty save delays, but otherwise a true masterpiece, indeed.

I started with gen 1 but I really love plat, sinnoh is comfy as hell, as overdone as it is to say it. each gen has something i appreciate it for, one reason i love pokemon still honestly.
