the champion is someone who challenged and defeated the 8 gyms of mono type; they can have a mixed team.

Also, the challenge is returning soon, with a tourney to start it off. I can't say much now, but more info will be coming within the next couple/few weeks. Stay posted.

They usually had tryouts where you formed a monotype (that wasn't already taken) team and battled enough people in charge that decided you were good enough, and had to be available for battles at decent times.

Questy came back right before ORAS released; he's probably playing the game and/or busy with other things.
Aquesty is still around and continuing his story with the same copy-paste human drawings.
NotQuesty briefly returned but I don't think he ended up finishing a new page.
