if you're okay with GSC/HGSS dumbing Kanto down in ways that not even the remake fixed (yeah, some locations were put back in, but it's still a vast empty parking lot in general), you can put up with a few seconds of blackness

ORAS needed a few things actually.

>Emerald gym/E4 teams

Also Sinnoh's lore and face value is huger then Hoenn, instead of rain and sunshine its the laws of the universe. Sinnoh is really hard to fuck up imo for thventual remakes. Antimatter episode leading into Arceus

Mirage Tower was the most extraneously superfluous addition to Emerald. You fucking climb it to get a fossil, which then sinks down and is never seen again. The only thing you get out of it that you didn't from just nabbing the fossil in RSE was being able to get the 2nd fossil in another location elsewhere.

Mirage Tower itself was pointless. it felt like adding something for the sake of adding something.

it's a frikkin rpg that still more or less follows the 90's model of gameplay. you spend your time between transition screens, going from one mode to the next. You get those same screens just to go inside BUILDINGS. No, I don't think it's a fair critique at all.

Look I like the games dude, but the FPS drop on any battle involving more than 2 Pokemon is fucking ridiculous. That's what happens when you design models that are super high poly so you can use them for the next decade or some shit. Designing models today that cannot run well on the hardware just so you don't have to do any significant work for next 10 years or whatever is a completely new level of lazy- I'm honestly kinda impressed.

Exploring buildings is a more relaxing activity though, and realistically, you would have to take a moment to open and close the door. There's no reason to have to wait as you're speeding through a route.

The transitions mid-walk take me out of the experience, and one of the big draws of Hoenn is that it's so pretty, so that a very bad thing.

It challenged you to play the game in different ways. Granted a couple of the facilities are kinda outdated now, like the Dome for example, because it's just an archaic version of how 3v3s are done now.

Some facilities have a huge luck factor to them, but then you could say that about the entire game.

Come on : Team Aqua and Team Magma ARE literally the stupidest teams out there.

I mean : Nutjobs like Lysandre and Cyrus are par for the course, and mustace twirlers like Giovanni and Ghetsis are fine as well but fuck Archie and Maxie had the DUMBEST plans.

They wanted to make fucking Waterworld and Dune respectively, and in both cases you'd end up drinking your own piss in some way or form in either of those situations.

Nah, there's actually a pattern. Kids like Pokemon when they're young, grow out of it after a few years, then sometimes go back to it once they're old enough to stop caring. Most people tend to hate the gen rate after the one they grew up with as a result.

Oh yeah, silly me. There's no way they could've made such an incredibly complex thing like contests work online. There aren't enough programmers in the world to take something as deep and technical as taking turns picking a move and translate that into an online environment. Forgive me for expecting the absolute impossible out of poor old Gamefreak. I'll buy 5 copies of ORAS as repentance for thinking I could have standards.

Still though, if only they didn't make contests so unbelievably complex and technical compared to normal battling. Maybe we could've had those online instead of having only battles online.

I just finished my run of OR. Honestly with all the cool shit like diving, secret bases, soaring and the like if they had BF or postgame with similar depth, trainer customization (because secret bases) and online contests they could stop making Pokemon games right here. Of course we'll never get a game like that because Pokemon is all GF has and they don't want to accidentally make something too good.

There are other reasons beyond just technical ones. Its not the same type of feature. They don't give it the same treatment. That makes sense. Contests weren't online in Platinum. That's actually a better example. Since the Battle Frontier in HGSS was the same as the one in Platinum. Its not really different. And in Platinum contests weren't online.

The Battle Maison which does have team battles. That however does have online. Just like the same feature did in Platinum.
