Holy shit, the new Fire Blast looks amazing. It reminds me of watching the fight between Magmar and Charizard when I was young. Much better than what it looked like in XY. What other moves got new animations?

It's actually the symbol for "big" or "great" (大), it's just a coincidence that it also looks like the symbol for fire.

Actually it's shaped like the symbol for "big",大 as well, to show it being a powerful fire move. In an episode of the anime (probably that one, now that I think about it), they show the fire blast going weaker as Charizard pushes it back by it turning into the shape for the japanese symbol for medium 中, and then small, 小, before it dissapears.

In Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon there is a giant 大 made of fire in one of the areas. I spent my childhood being baffled by it because it was in Pokemon and I had no idea what it meant.
