>>21992284I keep holding out hope that Gamefreak will go all out and actually do something like this. When they didn't do the combined Emerald storyline for ORAS, I thought to myself that surely they'd not miss out on a chance to do an updated version of that because it's so incredibly different from the source material, unlike Crystal was to GS, and with HGSS having elements from it incorporated.
But then I think "Yeah, but Z/XY2/Whatever should be coming out next year, so maybe not...", but when you look at the overlap possible it seems more likely. Emerald had Groudon and Kyogre going head to head, broken up by Rayquaza. Z will more than likely feature Xerneas vs. Yveltal with Zygarde trying to break it up. It may be a bit superficial but even still: Red vs. Blue version with Green as a third version. There's all kinds of amazing potential.
I'd love to see them surprise us with something like that, even if it isn't the same game, but a dual release of Z and Delta Emerald together. Maybe some kind of new connectivity function where you can beat one game and then use a free app to transfer your pokedex completion/PC/badges/character over to the next version which would unlock some new features, maybe a challenge mode of that game for your high level team, etc. Then just throw in all the best/desired features for both. Character Customization, Secret Bases, Battle Frontier, Dexnav, Contests, Move Tutors and all of a sudden you have an amazing experience. Throw in optional walking pokemon and you're almost guaranteed to make just about everyone happy.
I really don't hold out hope that it'll happen, but I'd like to dream a bit longer. It would be so amazing to journey around Kalos, digging out a secret base for myself while I try to stop Team Flare from ending all life in Kalos, only to receive an urgent request from Professor Birch after I become champion, asking that I come to Hoenn to help investigate reports of two rival eco-terrorist groups.
