I wonder how /vp/ would feel if pokemon amiibo worked as a separate box or boxes with a special event pokemon based on the amiibo. Like the Pikachu amiibo would give you a Pikachu with special unbreedable, or the Greninja.

That said, the only compatible games for the amiibos are Wii U right now, so fuck you OP. Don't play with my feelings ;_;

The skylander portals are different though. The first and second are the same hence why there were starter packs with the portal and portal owner's packs without for the second game. However, the third game introduced swap figures, which the first portal doesn't know how to pick up properly. And the fourth game has traps, which once again, the older portals can't manage.

He didn't get a rerelease with Trap Team, but there's been a Spyro released with every generation so far. Go to a Toys-R-Us and they'll likely have at least one of his iterations.

There's a new "elite" spyro out. But it's the shittest thing. It's just a remake of the original figure that costs more and is gamestop exclusive, but comes with a nice display case and has better stats.

At least with Pokemon I don't need to catch 50+ new Pokemon each year.

Skylanders always has new characters and as of the latest game new gimmicks you 'have' to collect.
I like the idea of Disney Infinity better because
1. It's characters you know
2. They're better in a collectors point of view
3. There's less of them and they have more bundles

amiibo on the other hand are cool because they are also known characters and they aren't locked to one game,

To be fair, you don't need any more skylanders than comes in the starter pack to complete the game and get all achievements/trophies if you're playing a console that has them.
I still get what you mean by known characters being neater figures though.

Too bad Disney continues to keep shafting Tron Uprising by keeping everything from it out of Infinity, yet adds in Star Wars and Marvel stuff like there's no tomorrow. I'm still salty about that.

It's neat that a single Amiibo can work across tons of different games though. Nintendo's got that going for them, at least.

It only unlocked a PvP map in the first game. Every other one turns it into a standard magic item.

The real crime is the adventure packs from the last game. $24.99 for a new level and Vicarious Visions decided to fuck everyone and just not even include those levels in the newest game. One year and the figures are outdated. At least in other games, the continued to support the adventure packs into the next game even it was just the exact same thing over again.

Unfortunately they're still shit, when nintendo releases dozens and dozens of amiibos, but most games will probably only support a few (you know, the popular ones) and even if a game does support them, it will probably just be a shitty costume like in mario kart.

Otherwise at the same time I hope they CONTINUE to get shit support, because then it just becomes an on disc DLC clusterfuck
