If I had to guess I'd say it probably just returns to the standard surf/dive animations once it evolves. At least that's what I've been expecting all along ever since Wailmer's unique surf/dive animations were confirmed. It's why I put a Sharpedo on my team instead of a Wailord. It gets its unique animations when it reaches its final evolution stage rather than potentially losing them when evolving.

If someone actually knows what happens, please do tell.

It reverts back to the normal model. I had a Wailmer and it evolved. When I used it again, it was the basic model. Kinda let down because of that.

im hoping in the next game they have a wider selection of pokemon models that you "surf" on. Such a neat little feature. But, this and the Lat@s free roam will both never appear again in the games.
