They dumbed down a lot of things. Mt. Pyre used to require you to drop down various holes on upper floors to get all the items, now it's just a straightforward walk without any obstacles.

The Sky pillar required tricky, skillful use of the Mach Bike, which was removed too; now it's just a pretty setpiece.

The Team Aqua base was simplified, and I think they changed the Granite Cave too. And Victory Road.

They're all easier and shorter now.

I have no idea why people try to pretend pokemons main-game was ever challenging or complicated in a way.

It's not being dumbed down because kids these days are less intelligent than kids and require more handholding. It's because kids in recent years are never taught how to deal with failure without throwing a tantrum. We live in a world where we congratulate kids for wiping their own arse. This then means that when they grow up and experience the harshness of the real world, a higher percentage get more depressed since they're no longer being rewarded for every little thing they do. This feeling then extends into adulthood, which is why modern games are considerably dumbed down compared to older games. Modern gamers dislike playing a game unless they can make visible progress in a relatively short time.

Have family members in the education system, part of the modern school curriculum here involves rewarding kids for being wrong do to some sort of mentality that kids who get answers wrong more will develop more intelligence than those who get answers right.

We live in a culture where we validate children's problems instead of correcting them, thus generations are going to get dumber and dumber. Not to mention these kids dont have the attention spans to play a game when they are stuck at a part when they could just play mobile games on their smartphones.

Hold the phone. Are you serious? They removed the most skill-oriented aspect of the games, that taught me twitch timing? SHIT.
Well, the Mach Bike itself is ass now, too, so I should have seen that coming. Aced the Cycling road test on my second try.

Before, you had to investigate, investigation is a vital tool for many career paths. Spoonfeeding information spoils the children, and that's not the only proof of casualization over the years, neither, in ORAS most of the puzzles are gone or are dumber down, the caves are streamlined and shortened and the gym leaders' levels are lower.
