After I beat the game, it froze on the screen showing the desk with Pokeballs after the credits and rival battle.
So it seems the patch doesn't even fucking do what it's meant to do. And Nintendo/Game Freak confirmed that this is what the patch was for. The game saves before it freezes, though, so it's fine, but that's besides the point. The music continues, but the game locks up, and you HAVE to soft-reset or hard-reset the game.
