The story is pretty contrived and I don't feel invested in any of the characters. There's a lot of party options, but they make no difference in the way anything plays out, and every "Pokemon" feels pretty much the same in how they battle, so it's hard to get invested in any narrative element of the game.
All in all, the game was far too easy. They give you an item early on that makes the game even easier, but by then I was already blasting through the game, so I chose not to use it. Unfortunately, the game still managed to get easier over time. The game is not balanced for the amount of money at your disposal at all. Healing items are incredibly cheap, and there's usually an option to buy a potion that'll heal 80-100% of any given Pokemon's HP at that point in the game.
The battle system itself is pretty basic. You take turns attacking each other. There's no mechanic for guarding, dodging, or doing a super move, so the battles get to feel pretty boring after a while. The only real complexity is the type system: it's convoluted. A lot of them make sense, like water putting out fire, or rocks smashing ice, but there were a lot that I only learned by trial and error. There's no reason I should be expected to know that Steel beats Fairy, for example. There's no intuitive way to know this. The really sad thing is that even with the occasional death due to this, the game was still very easy.
Overall, I can't recommend this game except for hardcore JRPG fans, and even then, you've got games, such as Skyrim, with more innovative battle systems or creative stories you could be playing.
I have to mention that the grammar is still shit-tier, but it's now copypasta, so it's meant to be shit-tier, I suppose.
