Ehh, I don't think that would work. It's actually a pretty big pain in the ass to LOWER friendship, the only consistent way that doesn't take for fucking ever is to keep giving it bitter medicine.

So they would either have to add a new way to make your Pokemon dislike you, which doesn't seem like a great selling point, or they would have to make it easier for your Pokemon to dislike you, which also isn't a great selling point, and could also make building up friendship more difficult.

It's still a time-consuming pain in the ass. You don't have to go out of your way to increase friendship, which is why it's a good system. It meshes well with the core mechanics. Pokemon that evolve with friendship feel more natural because they don't evolve when an arbitrary number says they should, they evolve at a seemingly random moment. It's just better.

Having to continuously go out of your way just to lower friendship just isn't efficient. Only people who actually give a shit are gonna do it.
