IIRC she said something to the effect that Aster is like her daughter, and also refers to her a lot as "her little girl".
I always assumed Aster was named after a dead friend or sibling, she's too young to have had children.

A lot about Zinnia makes no sense. Things like "I couldn't become what I was supposed to be". You could take it at failing to be a mother, but it's not that she couldn't become a mother. She's so ambiguous that it's hard to take anything she says at face value.
